Farm sharing with my buddy. 💙
Everything about farming was completely new to me 6 years ago. So many dreams at once. The chickens came first. I built a little coop half for chickens half for the dream goats.
When the time came ( I remember the excitement like it was 3 minutes ago ) to pick up the goats I did so in my volvo wagon. A seasoned ready-to-milk Alpine and a baby Nigerian buck. Yes , they pooped in the car, but it was worth it, every little berry.
I was milking Gypsy one morning, my younger middle love on my lap, she and I were glued together ( F was only 6 months old at the time)
And this flat out stranger drives in, walks over and stands observing me in silence. That was the weird start of a wonderful friendship. Teddy and I have been good friends ever since. He lives up the road and we farm share, support eachother through it all.
Spotty, Teddys' Mini Nubian buck.
He has a Nigerian doe where I have a Nigerian buck. Vise versa for the mini Nubians, doe and bucks. This way we can ensure the genes are well mixed and can offer so many different breeds.
We hay together, trim hooves together, fence together, laugh and support eachother. It's so important to have that. And he milks the girls so I can go camping in the summer!
We just built a wall and boxed a beam in their house - and trimmed out a window! That's a first for both of us. I love building , it is a huge passion. Very special to me, and so is this guy.
We had fun. We learned a lot, and learned it together.
Look at these beauties! I'm making shelves for both farms, and a new bench seat for at the firepit. Live edge wood makes me happy dance.
I could not one woman farm this place without the community, the support. It takes a village to raise a farm. Get a farm buddy, makes life that much sweeter.
Thank you for being you. 💙
